The last time I did a review article was on the 7th of August (I still dream about those Dim sums). We are well overdue for another one.

Location, Atmosphere, and Seating

If you find yourself stumbling around Russell Square in need of caffeine and a bite, let me point you to Caffe Tropea. A charming Italian café, where the paninis are as delightful as the people-watching opportunities. With a fair bit of indoor seating and an ample array of tables outside, it’s the perfect spot to sit and enjoy London’s bi-polar winter weather.

LJlo78: After 6000 steps and several failed attempts to find gluten free breakfast/brunch in London this lovely cafe made me an eggs benedict on gluten free muffin. Lovely brunch. Friendly staff, great coffee too. (CAFFE TROPEA, London – Bloomsbury – Updated 2024 Restaurant Reviews, Menu & Prices – Tripadvisor)

No Need to Fear the Queue

Now, don’t be alarmed by a morning queue. A little line is to be expected at this little haven. But trust me, the friendly folks behind the counter keep things moving at an impressive clip. Within five minutes, I’d successfully ordered, paid, and was already eyeing up a table. Even on the cold winter morning, sitting outside and gazing at the Christmas decorations was a very soulful aesthetic that I could picture in some sappy romance movie.

The All-Day Italian Menu

They’ve got an all-day Italian menu that won’t disappoint, and I opted for the classic choice: a tomato, mozzarella, and pesto panini. Oh, and what a panini it was! Crispy on the outside, warm, gooey deliciousness on the inside. The kind of panini that makes you sit back, sigh in delight, and briefly forget about all your worldly worries.

mrsquirrell: I love Caffe Tropea. I have been eating here for years now. The owners and staff are wonderful. They always make you feel very welcome. The pizzas are great the pastas of the day are always delicious! Great ice cream too! They also do a great Negroni or espresso Martini. The location Is also unique. It is a great spot to have an aperitivo and enjoy La Dolce Vita (CAFFE TROPEA, London – Bloomsbury – Updated 2024 Restaurant Reviews, Menu & Prices – Tripadvisor)

A Coffee to Remember

And the coffee, dear reader. Oh, the coffee. I ordered a macchiato, which can often be a gamble depending on the barista’s understanding of “just a little milk.” But let me tell you, Caffe Tropea played their cards right. It was strong enough to wake the dead but with just enough foam to smooth the edges. In fact, I’d go so far as to say it was the best macchiato I had during my London adventure—and I drank a lot of coffee, so that’s no small feat.

Cheers to great mornings, paninis, and the perfect macchiato!
